When we got to Ellie's yesterday to take her to lunch, she was visibly shaken. Very nervous and upset. For those of you who are just getting to know me and my......er.....unusal family, Ellie is my 84 year old, blind MIL.

After just a few short minutes in the car Ellie confessed to us that her 92 year old sister, is in just a bit....teensy really....minor tad of trouble. Seems the nursing home where Sis resides wants to put her in prison. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha ha! ( I swear. I am not making this up.)

She has apparantly brutalized the staff. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha! (sorry)

I hear she's told one nurse to, "GET YOUR FAT ASS OUT OF MY ROOM BEFORE I HIT YOU OVER THE HEAD WITH MY WALKER!"

Anyway, they have contacted Sis's son and told him if he didn't sign papers to have her commited to some place for some thing, (it's all confusing to me) they were having her arrested because she's becoming abusive and violent.

Now, it could just be me but....let's think here....92, uses a walker, and blind. Seems like avoiding any onslaught from this gal could be pretty easy. However, I happen to know Sis, and she can be a booger! Oddly enough, the old gal likes me. LOL!

Poor Ellie. She's taking this awfully hard. Says she'd rather see Sis dead than in prison. Let's hope Sis doesn't hear that. Just a hunch but....I don't think she'd much like the sentiment.

Oh yeah, we're perfectly normal over here. Nothing wrong with us at all. Just a regular ole Norman Rockwell family. 'scuse me....I have to go pry the dogs tail outa the bird's mouth now.

I think you should move her in with you and Bob. You have that big old house all to yourself. C'mon, you could use the God points LOL

What's wrong with being blind and abusive to the hired help?

They sound like a bunch of whiny sissies if you ask me.

That is really wacky. Do you suppose she has some sort of dementia not yet diagnosed? That would explain the mood swings. I have a hard time believing they could get her jailed for assault. That's ridiculous. I think they are trying to intimidate the relatives into moving her.

Jails don't want to deal with any sort of disabled person (even when they commit... oh... armed robbery... lol) so I have a hard time believing anyone is going to incarcerate an old blind woman with a walker.

LMAO and I thought my family was weird! My grandma (bless her soul) was a very fiesty lady. And oh my dont cross her. My hubby is 6'1" tall and at that time weighed 190 lbs. and grandma was 4'2" tall and 79 lbs and she picked him up turned him over her knee and spanked him and said you better take good care of my granddaughter or you'll get more of this! LOL

Sal, I would be my DQ cones they can't do what they're threatening. (sorry, every time I think about this I bust into giggles cuz I know this woman and I am sooo sure she is drivin them nuts.)

Jodes, it's hysterical. All they have to do is walk quiet. LOL! She'd never be able to find them.

Milky! WILL YOU STOP TRYIN TO MOVE MEAN OLD LADIES INTO MY HOUSE! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha!

Iris, you got that right, baby! Big ole sissies! Ear plugs and quiet shoes. That's all they need.

Deb, they are claiming dementia but....trust me....Sis has been like this her whole life. Always. She is no different now than ever before. Just older. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha!

And you hit it right on the head. They are absolutely trying to intimidate the son into moving her. Only problem is, he doesn't wanna take her either. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha ha! Oh man! Poor Sis. She's been through 4 room mates since she's been there and one of them had alzheimers. LMAO! You'd think that one would at least be able to forget how mean sis is but nope.

Rodney, my man. Pussies pretty much covers it. Shoot, I have a sore back, and a nose full of dust bunnies right now and I could still take her. Or at least out run her.

Gab, I'm TELLING you, the oldsters can be brutal! LOL! You do not wanna mess with them cuz they figure, I got one foot in the grave and nothin to lose. Bring it.

Ok, Sal. I would not "be" my DQ cones. cuz then I couldn't eat them. I would "bet" the DQ cones. Geez!

Just give her some valium,
but she probably just needs to get laid.

You hit it. I would think the worst that could happen is jail, not prison and that will not happen either. Can you imagine what a Jury would do if they had to convict a 92 year old to prison. I doubt there are many people that would do that. They are just a bunch of asses. Of course we all know they just want rid of her.

Crabs you are not a DQ cone? So what am I going to do with all these spinkle I have right here?

` Haa haaa haaa! Can they even take care of her very well in the graybar hotel?

` Also, I generally commend inmates for being abusive to staff - the staff tend to be the ones who start it!

Poly, you know I'm not sharing my Valium. LOL! Not with the circus I live in. ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha!

Barman, I'll lay down, open my mouth and you can just pour those sprinkles in through this funnel here. (seriously, I GOTTA get off the DQ stuff. Everyone at both DQs knows my name and usually can have my cone ready before I order. It's pitiful)

Sal, if I was made outa those cones I'd eat myself. I have a problem, man. Is there an AA for DQ?

Seequin, the Graybar Hotel? Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ha ha ha ha! Are we sure, you're not my kid?

Gotta run. Bob's getting his car today. He's so excited he can hardly stand himself. LOL! Very adorable. I'm enjoying just watching him. He kept peeking in at it where they were getting it all cleaned up for him. How cute is that?

I'll be back soon as he signs all his paperwork. I imagine I'll have some time while Bob just sits in his car, loving it. LMAO! And you guys thought I was bad with the car thing.

Oh and PS! There is something going down here. Gotta be some bad stuff. Two police cars flew past sirens blazing, few seconds later, a paddy wagon, then a few minutes later a fire truck and THREE more cruisers! Now we have a helicopter circling over head. Whatever it is, it's close and the dogs are going nuts!

Too Funny.. When me and my brother were teens my Grandma caught us shooting oranges out of her tree. We knew it was our ass if we got caught so we took of running. She's 80 years old and ran down my little brother. That was the toughest lady I have ever known. I/O Inside out... Will be back with a new blog after Xmas. Have a good weekend

LOL, I have to laugh because sometimes the youngest person I care for is above the 80 year old mark. I have gotta tell ya though...never underestimate the strength of an elderly person, no matter their disability. A walking stick or a 4 wheeled frame can become weapons!!
Usualy, if this kinda incident happened at a nursing home here the resident gets referred to an Aged Care Assessment Team and then they sort out where to place the resident that is better for everyone. But, I haven't eer seen anyone go to prison before.
Usualy, a family meeting is the first port of call. They would discuss the problem at hand, set up a new care plan for the resident, perhaps call the doctor on in and have a chat with them too. Maybe someone has been a little rought with her and she won't be 4gettin' that...or, dementia is truly progressing and manifesting in an agressive way.
Where I work, we have a few rooms allocated for people with undiagnosed reason for being agressive..called the DMU or Delerium Management Unit. The room is safe for the patient and safe for the carers too.
Sometimes, it the only option is to medicate the patient, that is if no other way of management deems appropriate.
Nursing people that are agressive is usualy difficult. I maintain a low profile, only speak when they speak to me or when I need to truly do something important with them and make their environment one that is calm (as in Post Traumatic Stress Disorder- post car accident or ex war veterans).
Your poor MIL, give her a hug..and get away from them donughts girl :)

I agree with milky, you should let her live in your basement.

Hey Crabbs, what did you do?

I just had a repeat of all the sirens followed by some more police cars and more fire trucks very much like what your comment mentioned. I did not hear a helicopter however. Now I am used to lots of sirens as I live near an "old folks home" said in a whisper.

Did you send them up here?

I would hate to be a 92-year-old woman's cell bitch.

Would that really be "protection" worth punking yourself out for??

At 11/07/2006 4:49 AM, Blogger Suze

Go girl! It makes a refreshing change to hear that the residents have the upper hand.

Over here there are too many stories of little old dears being abusused by nursing homes.

Good for her.

Awwwwwwwww. Look at you guys. I just love you.

Unfortunately, in case you can't tell, my brain is mush. I went to bed at 2, got up at 5:30. And I've been doing major grunt work for 3 friggin days to get ready for this appaiser.

He came this morning. I'll have to tell ya that story soon as I get out of here and get some caffeine and hopefully mexican food and lots of sugar. That stuff should wake me up enough to function. Or, I may never be normal again.

I hate to say it, but I might be gettin older. I swear to you, even my butt cheeks hurt. (I am not making this up.)

K, I'm gonna eat and rejuvenate.....least I sure as hell hope so. My eyeballs are on strike and not even tryin to focus. LOL!
